The Vroonhof site has always played an important role in Poperinge’s history. Based on a master plan, the city of Poperinge is now breathing new life into the site with the construction of a municipal art academy, whether or not combined with a performance hall and later the Huis van het Kind.
Thanks to the (re)construction, from 2030 onwards, Poperinge will be able to offer all classes for the more than 1,100 Poperinge pupils in the departments of music, word, dance, visual arts and cross-domain initiation on one site in the city centre.
During construction, great attention is paid to sustainability and mobility, with the aim of making the site car-free. Traffic to and from the above- and/or underground car parks is organised in such a way as to limit car circulation on the site and give priority to the mobility of vulnerable road users. Kiss and ride zones are located just outside the site.
