The Vroonhof site has always played an important role in Poperinge’s history. Based on a master plan, the city of Poperinge is now breathing new life into the site with the construction of a municipal art academy, whether or not combined with a performance hall and later the Huis van het Kind.
Thanks to the (re)construction, from 2030 onwards, Poperinge will be able to offer all classes for the more than 1,100 Poperinge pupils in the departments of music, word, dance, visual and audiovisual arts on one site in the city centre.
The new building will include various classrooms for music, dance, and language. There will be spacious studios for visual arts, ceramics, and glass art, as well as a digital studio for the animation and photography departments. The foyer/exhibition space, auditorium, and bar will be shared with the theater in a later phase.
During construction, great attention is paid to sustainability and mobility, with the aim of making the site car-free.
